In the biggest case of social media censorship to date, Father Ted creator Graham Linehan has been suspended by Twitter for his views on transgenderism.
In the continuing controversy surrounding politically motivated social media censorship, Father Ted creator Graham Linehan has been banned from Twitter, for his views on transgenderism, which recently included a spat whereby he accused an LGBTQ+ of grooming, leading to his verified status being briefly revoked. Twitter claimed at the time this had been mistaken.
In a statement, the social media company explained that Linehan was banned because ‘The account has been permanently suspended after repeated violations of our rules against hateful conduct and platform manipulation’.

Twitter defines platform manipulation as ‘using Twitter to engage in bulk, aggressive, or deceptive activity that misleads others and/or disrupts their experience’. Linehan has been the biggest name so far to be expelled from social media, with possible antitrust suits being filed against these companies in the United States of America.
Linehan’s views on transgenderism have caused controversy in the past, most notably when his campaigning managed to get the National Lottery to temporarily suspend their funding of the group Mermaids, which was eventually reinstated.
Many jumped to Linehan’s defence, feeling he was wrongly kicked off. A TalkRadio host that the move was ‘bloody ridiculous’, meanwhile Guido Fawkes journalist Tom Harwood ‘deeply uncomfortable’ with the move. A politics lecturer at the University of Oxford to be ‘beyond disturbed’ that both Linehan and commentator Katie Hopkins were banned from Twitter, feeling it was hypocritical while US President Donald Trump was allowed to threaten countries and ‘protestors’. Mark Meechan, better known by his alias Count Dankula, that he shouldn’t be banned, all the while their clashes in the past whereby Linehan had previously tried to cancel Meechan’s GoFundMe page for appeal money, didn’t matter, as he ‘celebrate’ Meehan ‘getting censored’.
