FAR-LEFT Activist group in North America have released an advert that calls for a ‘coup d’etat’ against the democratically elected President of the United States.
The far-left Canadian based political organisation called Adbusters called for a 28-day ‘siege‘ and promoted an advert on Twitter whereby they advocate that Republican President Donald Trump should be in a ‘siege’, suggesting that a ‘revolution’ was needed.
On September 17, 2020 we will lay siege to The for exactly fifty days.
We need your wisdom and expertise to pull off a radically democratic toneshift in our politics.

In the advert in question, they announced that ‘On September 17, 2020 we will lay siege to The @WhiteHouse for exactly fifty days’, adding that they needed their supporters’ ‘wisdom and expertise to pull off a radically democratic toneshift in our politics’. They also suggested that a ‘revolution’ was needed, and called the event the ‘#WhiteHouseSiege’. In the accompanying photo, they noted that their event would begin on September 17, 2020, lasting for 28 days. They also called the siege an ‘occupation’, echoing their former movement Occupy Wall Street, of which came to be in 2011 in response to the recent global financial crisis.
The advert was heavily criticised for its anti-democratic and revolutionary tone, especially by Trump supporters. Author Tim Young noted that it wouldn’t ‘end well’ for the group, a GIF referencing the 2004 cult comedy Dodgeball, where the characters joke about the ‘bold strategy’ planned, and whether it ‘pays off for ’em’. Singer Lisa Mei Crowley told them ‘good luck with that’, and Trump supporter Connie Lee an image whereby a donkey representing the Democrats decides to destroy America annoyed that Trump hasn’t done it like they predicted. Larry Schweikart, best known as the co-author of the 2004 book A Patriot’s History of the United States, argued ‘We will have the Army, Marines, Secret Service and all local LEOS ready for you spoogenipple stumpphogers on Sept 17, or any other day you try to interfere with this duly elected Republic’.
Adbusters have caused controversy in the past. This mainly came from their initiating of the far-left Occupy Wall Street movement in the United States, of whose riots and protests spread across the globe. That group polarised public response; many Democratic politicians supported them, world leaders like the then Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown gave them praise and TIME Magazine had placed them for their 2111 Person Of The Year, other major protest movements at the time, like the Tea Party movement and the Arab Spring. On the other hand, many others including many conservatives, criticised the group’s violence, rioting which led to several arrests, Marxist aims often inspired by anarcho-communist philosopher Peter Kropotkin, alleged anti-Semitism and links to billionaires like George Soros.
