Eight people were arrested after a night of destructive protests in Manhattan, New York. According to authorities, Friday night’s riots caused as much as $100,000 in damages.

The “Black Lives Matter” demonstration was announced on Twitter earlier in the day and was set to convene in front of the Manhattan Courthouse.

Police reportedly recovered stun guns and smoke grenades, along with tools for burglary and graffiti. At least eight businesses were broken into and three buildings were vandalized.

“Kind of disheartening. You got the right to do whatever you want, but why you got to hurt other people’s properly for it? I don’t know whether or not I’m even going to be able to open the store tomorrow.” – Jason Liang, store operator
